Grupo Construcía completes the structure of the Holiday Inn Sabadell promoted by Europa-Center Iberia

26/02/2025

The hospitality sector is evolving towards a more sustainable model, and the Holiday Inn Express & Suites project in Sabadell is a clear example of this transformation. Located in the Vallès Oriental region (Barcelona), this hotel not only seeks to offer comfort and functionality to its visitors, but is also consolidating itself as a benchmark in sustainable construction.

Progress in sustainable construction

This project is developed under an Open Books approach. This model fosters cooperation between the parties involved in the construction project and all have full and transparent access to financial and operational information, enabling joint decision-making that optimises quality, reduces uncertainties and minimises risks. This methodology facilitates alignment of interests and greater transparency, ensuring that the project meets the highest sustainability standards.

Thanks to the collaboration of a multidisciplinary team, composed of Europa Center Iberia, Energreen, Eco Intelligent Growth (EIG), Moneo Architecture, PGI Engineering and Grupo Construcía, the project has reached important milestones in its execution:

  • The structure of the third floor enclosure and roof has been completed.
  • They obtained the DGNB Gold level pre-certification in the project phase, ensuring the highest standards of sustainability in construction.
  • Eco Intelligent Growth (EIG) advised the developer on the replacement of conventional materials with lower embedded carbon options.
  • Reducing the water footprint by more than 30%.

Reducing the carbon footprint of the structure

One of the main pillars of this project is the minimisation of CO2 emissions during the construction phase. To this end, innovative strategies have been implemented, such as:

  • Use of Holcim's ‘ECOPact’ low carbon concrete, which considerably reduces the environmental footprint.
  • Prefabricated piles, which minimise the environmental impact of the foundations.
  • Efficient waste management, generating less waste and greater reuse of materials.

Tangible results in sustainability

The sustainability efforts of this project are reflected in the following quantifiable achievements:

  • 81.7% of the materials used will not become waste, exceeding the 70% required by regulations.
  • 46.4 tonnes of materials have been reused in different ways.
  • 239.87 tonnes of CO2 eq. avoided, a significant figure in the fight against climate change.

These data have been verified by the 360º Advisor platform of CoCircular, a key partner in document management and traceability of waste on site.

Installations with sustainable technologies

In parallel to the development of the structure, Construcía Instalaciones has begun the installation phase, integrating solutions that optimise energy efficiency and reduce environmental impact:

  • Connection to the regenerated water network, allowing the reuse of black and grey water.
  • Solar panels, for the generation of renewable energy on site.
  • Recharging points for electric vehicles, facilitating the sustainable mobility of future guests.

A strategic hotel for Sabadell

The Holiday Inn Express & Suites will have 130 rooms, 20 of which will be equipped with en-suite kitchens, spread over a total of 7,100 m2 of floor space. Its strategic location at the entrance to Sabadell, in a consolidated area with high growth expectations, makes it an ideal option for business travellers and tourists.
